in three weeks the president continued to press for a big deal to raise the debt ceiling and to reduce the deficit by $4 trillion. >> i am still pushing for us to achieve a big deal. but what i also said to the group is if we can't do the biggest deal possible, then let's still be ambitious. let's still try to at least get a down payme on deficit reduction. we are obviously running out of time. and so what i have said to the members of congress is that you need over the next 24 to 36 hours to give me some sense of whayour plan is to get the debt ceiling rais through whatever mechanisms they can think about and show me a plan in tes of what you are doing for deficit and debt reduction. if they show me a serious plan, i'm readyo move. even if it requires some toh decisions on my part. and i'm hopeful that over the next couple of days 'll see this long jam broken because the american people i think understandably want toee washgton do its job. >> president obama ruled out a 2.4 trillion plan prosed by house republicans. >> in my expectation is that you will probably see the house vote on

john boehner and president obama both talked of doing something big to change america's unsustainable economic path. what do you think? do you think that opportunity's lost? >> well, a week is a long time in politics. it can be a lifetime. i think what's now clear is that the big deal, the grand deal, the grand bargain of $4 trillion over ten years is dead, it's gone. i think the chances of getting a deal at $2.5 trillion or the middle-level deal, very unlikely because the president does not want to go that high without tax increases and republicans are not going to do it. here's the hard question i think that's coming up. the house republicans are now pushing a very, very tough deal through the house. over in the senate side, the republicans and democratic leaders are working together on a version of the mcconnell plan. and the president will accept that, as he said in his news conference friday. but whether the house republicans would accept that or not is a big, big question. it seems to me that's the lead horse, that's the lead solution right now, is a version of the mcconnell pla

his bid for re-election as attorney general of ohio. there he was a credit of big banks in general and mass foreclosures, and he had a winning streak on a game show. what is the consumer financial protection bureau? it aims to put a stop to predatory lending. it will keep an eye on credit card fees and student loans and keep an ear on consumer complaints. because a whole lot of centers don't like the bureau, the confirmation could be, dare i say, in jeopardy. dan, tell us first why this nomination is not going to elizabeth warren? >> reporter: well, certainly the white house saw her as somebody that could set up the agency and had hoped that she was the person who could potentially lead the agency, but as you pointed out this was somebody who was controversial and ran up against conservatives that would not support her nomination. and one official telling me republicans in congress made clear that they don't support the agency, and they would block all efforts to confirm elizabeth warren as the permanent director. while she was somebody that essentially invented this agency, got it

, of being a terror attack. large explosions. a big bomb in oslo, and then a guy who steals is police uniform or creates one and then goes to the camp, and he also had mom-making materials or a bomb on the island. you begin to say this is an awful big sort of incident to have just one person. so for a lot of reasons i think people assume, based on recent history over the last ten years, of an international terrorism conspiracy. we're now hearing maybe not. this may be a right wing extremist. somebody from their midst. >> fran, this reminds me of the oklahoma city bombing. when that happened it was also so big the initial idea was this had to be a group of some sort, and i guess it was. there were two people involved. it was not a massive group nor a big effort. >> that's right. i think one, you will find this will be hard to do alone. the times square bomber, it's hard to have one guy to get the materials and put it together correctly and detonate it. it's reasonable to suspect he had some amount of help. and we are hearing from media sources the individual in custody may have been a farmer.

temperature. and when you pile on the humidity, it's a huge difference maker. the big question people have is, when is this going to end? when can we expect some relief? the changes are going to come. we're going to see a lot of the temperatures begin to revert back to where they should be this time of year, into the 70s, the 80s, and some places in the 90s. but that's going to feel better than what you're going to get today. 99 will be your high, expected in new york today. 98 in boston. 102 in our nation's capital. 90s in chicago, back into kansas city, 100 in dallas. and the heat continues into the front range of rockies, the central rockies, and even back to the great basin. the big changes we're going to see, from the highs in the 100s and upper 90s, will come from the big dome of high pressure we've had, that's been over at least half the nation. we'll see this big ridge begin to break down. and when it breaks down, it will create a void, and then a frontal boundary will replace it. it's not going to be frigid, but it will take an edge off that heat in places like boston, chicago, and p

three weeks away. president obama is imploring congressional leaders to think big, though the top house republican bailed out last night, saying, it's time for a smaller plan. on abc's "this week," the white house chief of staff said the president isn't giving up. >> he is not someone to walk away from a tough fight. this is a very tough political fight. no question about it. but he didn't come to this town to do little things. he came to do big things. >> reporter: how big? the president was willing to put social security, considered a sacred cow to democrats, on the table. as well as major changes to the tax code. his plan would cut the deficit by $4 trillion. twice what republicans propose. here's the standoff. while republicans like the idea of cutting hundreds of billions of dololrs from medicaid, medicare and social security, democrats don't. >> we do not support cuts in benefits. >> reporter: and republicans refuse the president's plan to increase taxes, revenue, by cutting subsidies on oil and gas companies and closing tax loopholes for other businesses. >> to get a big package

in the unemployment line. it's that big of an issue. new polling in four key swing states tell the story. over 50% of voters in ohio, missouri and montana say that they will be less likely to vote for president obama if he makes any cuts. that's any cuts to medicare/medicaid benefits. the same holds true if the president signs off on any deal that cuts social security. president obama will never win reelection if he loses 50% of the voters in a state like ohio. now, there is really good reason -- no good reason anywhere to put entitlement cuts on the table with numbers like this. this is mind-boggling to the democratic caucus right now. i know, i spoke to a dozen of them tonight at a function here in washington. republicans. they will never take it as a tried-off for raising taxes on the rich. eric canter made that crystal clear this morning. >> i can tell you one thing, we are united as republicans to say now is not the time to raise taxes. i have talked with the speaker. he is not for increase in taxes. >> we are not for any net new revenues right now. what we want to focus on is getting people

a northeast baltimore home and then set it on fire. our big story at noon -- police responded to the home on nicholas avenue after receiving a call for shots fired. but the left and no one answered. a short time later, the house was in flames. firefighters discovered three victims inside. jennifer has the latest on the investigation. >> arson teams and homicide detectives are investigating after firefighters battled the fire on tuesday morning. when they gained entry, they found three victims that had been shot in the head. a 58-year-old man, his 38-year- old daughter and her 27-year- old boyfriend. >> we have pieces of physical evidence at the scene. we're talking to a never -- to a neighbor. the good news is that everyone is overwhelmingly cooperative. >> the two male victims were found dead on the first floor. the female was clinging to life on an upper floor, but died later at an area hospital. one neighbor says he heard shots overnight. >> athletes between five shots to seven shots. -- at least between five shots to seven shots. >> they look for any evidence of discharging gun shots
